The Story Behind Munay
Deep in the Choco Andino forest of Ecuador, there’s a lovely wooden house surrounded by towering mountains and a pristine river. The garden is alive with native flowers, and the sounds of dogs, a cat, and hundreds of birds fill the air. Our three kids run freely across this land, adding to the enchantment. Each night, a fire burns brightly while thousands of medicinal plants, planted since Munay’s beginnings, continue to grow and thrive. Munay is a 160-hectare natural reserve where my family and I have the incredible privilege of living.
Munay is More Than a Name
it’s a promise. It represents our commitment to embracing and cherishing every moment of our journey, a journey that began with Wouter and me 18 years ago. Munay is where we find both our souls and bodies flourishing. It’s also the name of our brand, where we infuse all the love and experience we’ve gathered over the years—through our work as ecologists, business people, entrepreneurs, parents, partners, and just as human beings. Each day in this beautiful place reminds us of our responsibility to protect this land with all our hearts and keeps us connected to our distant families. We’re driven by a desire to share the magic, joy, and healing from the heart of the forest with friends around the world.
The Birth of Munay Botanicals
Munay Botanicals was born from our deep appreciation for the jungle’s gifts. We were inspired by the indigenous traditions that honor and nurture our planet. We envisioned a brand that would deliver the purest plant extracts to the world while respecting the ecosystems they come from. While not all our plants come from Ecuador’s forests, we’ve developed a deep trust and understanding of each one. We know them, we rely on them, and we’ve experienced their healing.
